Asia Racing Team is IN
The 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) is set for a seventh sensational season, and Asia Racing Team will be part of it.
The Macanese outfit will enter a white and green Porsche and the Macau racing driver Rodolfo Avila accepted with pleasure the challenge to drive Asia the team’s 997 GT3 Cup in the Official Test Day of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. The 22 years old ace is looking forward to join the championship this season with ART if he finds the sponsorship needed.
“The team is looking forward to sign a quick driver to compete in the series and they gave me the opportunity to test the car in Sepang (Malaysia) and I’d like to pass on my thanks to them. This was the only official test day of the series and my one and only chance to test the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup before the season start”, Asian GT Champion 2008 said. “Looking at the times I was quick and the good thing is that in the end, over a longer distance I was both quick and consistent, so the situation looks pretty good for the upcoming season.”
For Team Manager Philippe Descombes, the probable acquisition of Avila, whose last race with ART was at Zhuhai in 2005, is a big coup for the team. “We know Rodolfo very well and we know how quick he can be. We are excited to participate in this unique project for Macau SAR. We have a change to put together a 100% Macanese operation in Asian motorsports”.
The 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia begins in April, with the opening races held as part of the 2009 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit, the first of two occasions when the series will support the prestigious world championship this year.
