Li Sicheng and Jack Pang took the No.2 银桥ACM by Blackjack Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO to a commanding double GTC class win during a revitalised China GT Championship race weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Blackjack Racing Team Principal and driver Jack Pang made his return to the cockpit of the team’s Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO, partnering with Li Sicheng for the weekend. The Italian ‘bull’ sported a striking new green The Spring Water livery, making its debut at the Shanghai International Circuit.
In Saturday morning’s first 15-minute qualifying session for GTC and GTS cars, Li Sicheng put in an impressive performance, placing the green Lamborghini at the top of the timesheets with a 2:05.039 lap. Jack Pang followed up with a strong showing in qualifying two, clocking a 2:06.703 around the demanding 5.451 km Shanghai circuit.
On Saturday afternoon, a 26-car grid battled for the opening honours of the first 55-minute plus one lap race of the weekend. The No.2 银桥ACM by Blackjack Racing Lamborghini led its class for a significant portion of the race, until a brief off-track excursion by Jack Pang dropped the car to second place in the GTC class at the chequered flag.
However, post-race, the initial GTC class winner was handed a 30-second penalty for overtaking three cars during the Safety Car procedure before the control line. As a result, Blackjack Racing -run car was officially promoted to first place, securing their maiden GTC class victory of the season.
Sunday’s second race was more straightforward for the team, though still far from easy. Jack Pang had a poor start and ran second throughout his stint. However, the driver and the team made a smart strategic call by pitting under a Full Course Yellow, successfully undercutting the GTC leader at the time. From there, the No.2 car led the GTC class to the finish, with Li Sicheng holding off intense pressure from a rival after a tense Safety Car restart.
Li Sicheng said: “Great teamwork this weekend! After a lonely race in Race 1, I managed to survive a chaotic Safety Car restart in Race 2. Credit to my opponent for a good fight, too.”
Jack Pang added: “It was a great weekend for the team, with a double win in the GTC class. As a driver, I focused on improving my pace and racecraft in multi-class races. We were also a bit lucky to take both wins, but we’ll take it and aim to carry this momentum into the next round.”
Round 3 of the China GT Championship will be held at the Zhuhai International Circuit from 20–22 June.
